Haircut was REALLY bad. Hairdresser was super distracted and kept leaving during the haircut to answer the phone. I was hoping for a shaggy Bob, brought a photo and his chin length Bob is a complete hack job. Won’t be returning.

We didn’t get the “first haircut” package like we asked for and the two stylists there were not friendly, but they also weren’t rude. It definitely was not the experience we wanted for our baby’s first haircut. I’m extremely disappointed. I thought about calling but we won’t be returning so it doesn’t matter.

I brought my son, Zander, to the Carmel location to get his first haircut ever in life at 3 years old. I was already apprehensive because he had a head full of long beautiful curls but it was time for the first haircut milestone for various reasons. I didn’t know how he would react to this new experience with hair clippers so to calm my nerves, I called the location prior to scheduling an appt. The stylist who answered was very polite and helpful. She reassured me that they have experienced and seasoned stylists who deal with all hair types and textures (my son is biracial, black and white) and are also very used to doing haircuts on upset, crying, unruly toddlers. More details about the process were discussed and I ultimately felt comfortable enough to schedule the appointment. That was the worst parenting decision I have ever made in my entire life and I still regret it even though “hair grows back” as everyone kept saying after I shared the horrific experience with them. Here’s what happened… there were 2 stylists there when we arrived. The one who called us to her station was a 50ish year old white woman which I didn’t have an issue with UNTIL she started making comments that made me question her confidence and abilities to cut his hair. She would say things such as “Wow, he has a lot of hair. It’s so thick. What kind of cut did you want? Ohhh, you want that? I don’t know.” Mind you, it was a pretty basic faded Mohawk style that I’ve seen barbers and stylists do in their sleep. So I flat out asked before she got any scissors or clippers out, “Do you feel comfortable doing this cut because we can come back another time if needed.” She said she felt perfectly fine to cut it, reiterating her 25 years of experience doing hair. Still, in the spirit of trusting the professional and not judging based on her age and race, I went against my motherly intuition and allowed her to proceed. She struggled through the entire cut and needed constant assistance and input from the only other stylist who was there that evening. She shaved the sides of his head almost bald, demonstrating her inability to taper or fade, and she started cutting his length down haphazardly with no sense of properly shaping the Mohawk style. He looked like Mr. T and I was mortified. The cut was supposed to be 30 mins (if I’m not mistaken) but it lasted almost 90 mins and we never got the shampoo that I had scheduled along with the cut. At several points during the session, the other stylist (who appeared to be a black woman in her 40s) would jump in on the cut and try to fix or salvage some semblance of a decent style. But it was a lost cause really. Also, when the main stylist was finished, she kept asking me if there’s anything else I think she should cut more or fix. Lady I dont know! This is my first child and his first haircut ever and YOU’RE THE EXPERT HERE NOT ME! I was in shock and in tears at the final result and hated myself for putting him through that and having him look so odd with that awful haircut. There’s no way that stylist should’ve been allowed to do his cut because it was clear she was inexperienced, incapable and uncomfortable.

We have three kids and have used this Cookie Cutters Salon for many years and have always had a good experience. This visit was the opposite and has me debating whether or not we will return. I do not know the name of the stylist that cut my oldest son’s hair this time, nor did I recognize her. (I recognize several long term faces since we have frequented this salon.) Typically I explain how I would like for my kids’ hair to look and the stylist then cuts it accordingly at it always looks great. I explained that I wanted to go very short on the sides and back and then just a little longer than that on top, just enough hair left on top to comb over. Which is the same thing I say each visit. This stylist cut his hair much differently than other stylists have in the past using only the trimmer and no scissors. (All other stylists have always scissored the top.) She barely spoke at all the entire time and when she was finished his hair was still very long on top and looked rather shaggy still so I asked for more to be taken off and she was very rude about it. She took a little more off and I still didn’t love it but was ready to leave based off the experience and the way I felt I was being treated. My son’s neck was naturally covered in hair after this haircut and instead of trying to brush any of it off as they normally do, she just took the cape off and pulled it in a way that even more hair landed all over my son and she just walked away to the counter and waited for us to come and pay. He even had hair all over his face. I stood there trying to brush at least some of this hair off and she turned from the counter, saw what I was doing and continued to just stand there. She was very stand offish and at no time during this visit did I get the feeling that she cared at all about what she was doing or the quality of her work. It truly felt that she did not want to be there and just simply did not care. I don’t think I could have been any more dissatisfied with the experience. As previously stated, our children have received countless haircuts here and we have always been happy with our visits. This visit was far from what we have come to expect from this salon and did not leave me feeling eager to return. I am not big on leaving reviews, but I was so unhappy with this experience I felt it necessary to share this in hopes that salon management may read it.

We were supposed to get a certificate and photo as part of the 1st haircut package and didn’t.
