We were greeted promptly and my child was escorted back before I finished the check-in process, which concerned me simply because my child had described wanting a very weird haircut and I wanted to speak with the stylist beforehand. The stylist did not introduce herself to me. I ended up meeting them at the shampoo table/bed. The shampoo bowl would not drain and looked grimy and old. It was the only shampoo bowl in the shop. I had inquired about having my hair washed and dried while we were there and when I realized that I would need to lay down on the fire engine table/bed to have my hair washed in the sink that wasn’t properly draining, I changed my mind. The receptionist came over to see if I still wanted my hair washed and dried and I let her know that I had changed my mind. She said to me that she thought I might change my mind once I saw the shampoo table/bed because she was also a big girl (she also said that I wasn’t as big as she was), and she always worried that the table might collapse while she was on it, and totally understood why I had changed my mind. It had not crossed my mind that I might cause the table to collapse; it just didn’t seem like a comfortable way to get my hair shampooed, especially after I saw the sink. So. As someone who NEVER speaks negatively about my body in front of my child, that was super uncomfortable and offensive for me, especially as there were several other patrons there at the same time. The stylist wasn’t very friendly, and I was surprised to hear that she’d been working there for about 20 years. She didn’t stack the back of my child’s hair, as we asked, and the front pieces were not even. There were two children receiving haircuts behind us and they were both screaming bloody murder. It didn’t seem like a very organized or efficient way for a store specializing in children's cuts to be operating. I would not go back, my child said that they would not go back, and I would not recommend this particular store (in Avon) to anyone.
